Beijing Hutong

An old Beijing saying goes that:” There are 360 large hutongs and as many small hutongs as there are hairs on an ox.” Therefore, there is no other better way than to visit Beijing hutongs when you want to experience the Beijing residential culture.

Hutongs originated in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), but most of them were formed in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Generation by generation, Beijing natives have been living here in their unique way. Beijing people built these hutongs, while, hutongs also have witnessed and recorded their life and even Beijing’s historical vicissitude.

In such a mordern city, they are the live history museums. Due to their attractive ancient styles, they are regarded as one of the most beautiful places in Beijing.

So, never miss them when you travelling in Beijing.
