Jokhang Temple
Jokhang Temple is regarded as the most sacred monastery and spiritual center of Tibet. It was built about 1350 years ago when the first king of Tibet, Songsten Gampo, to welcome his bride, Princess Wencheng who came from Changan, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. |

Gandan Monastery
As the oldest of the three principle Gelukpa monasteries in Lhasa, Gandan Monastery was located in Zixan County about 40 kilometers from Lhasa. It was founded in 1409 during the Ming Dynasty and in its heyday, the temple housed almost 4,000 monks. |

Drepung Monastery
Drepung Monastery is one of the great three Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet, along with Gandan and Sera Monasteries. Located at the foot of Mount Gephel in the west of Lhasa, it was built in 1416 by Jamyang Chojey, a direct disciple of Je Tsongkhapa who is the founder of the Gelukpa School. |

Sera Monastery
Sera Monastery is one of the three most famous monasteries in Lhasa. It consists of a Buddhist temple, sutra recitation hall and monastery, monastic house, Kang village, and the famous Living Buddhas’ palace. |
